The brief from the client was that the house to resemble their experience at the Atlantic Hotel Byron Bay.
It became clear that achieving a flat beach house vibe on a steep west facing slope would be a challenge.
The solution was to design the building along the summer suns path and allow for the thinnest profile to the setting sun. To experience the view a protected outdoor living space would encourage the occupants outside. This space also would take advantage of the houses orientation and utilise the thermal massing floor for winter
The requested style of the house was for a weatherboard federation look, and given the geometric form of the building, we began a discussion on how to achieve the intention of the traditional buildings with modern materials and building methods.
The building was then split into levels of 3 distinct materials that denoted the functions of the spaces within.
