THE HATCHERY
Small Home
Eerwah Vale. QLD
Rural AirBNB.
The house was an original Shed on a property in Eerwah Vale Sunshine Coast. It had a past role of being a Banana Packing Shed, but given the family name Hatcher of the owners the shed was re-named 'the hatchery'
A deck and recycled door was added to open the studio up to experience the looming Mt Eerwah to the North.
The entire shed was finished with recycled items sourced from the surrounding rural area and the scrap yard at Yandina. This is a common practice in the country of waste not want not that residents did -fixing something without having to travel into town is seen as a preferable option
Light fittings and switches were made from a variety of old plumbing and vintage electrical parts.
The exterior blades and steel came from a cut up church to add privacy to the space from the main house
The floor was badly degraded and it was simply covered with Form Ply to match the Kitchen Joinery- a coating was added to ensure it didn't become an ice-rink when water was spilled.
A hanging fire pit was added to keep the area safe as Guests can get a little over enthusiastic with the romance of a large fire.
The entire space was also designed to roll out, retract into the roof, and open up to allow for a multi-functional space.
Designed within an existing small shed the studio aims to embrace its character and express its rural simplicity and functionality.
