RENOVATION
WAGTAIL HOUSE
PEREGIAN BEACH
Sunshine Coast
A renovation of the existing small home to accommodate a growing family.
The existing home was located in the center of the block, raised high with a side entry through the laundry. The owners had already renovated the kitchen and installed a deck connecting to the dense national park beyond. They were at a loss of how to create the footprint
The decision was made to join the house to the front gate - making a seamless arrival level from the front gate to the rear deck.
The new addition would house the bedrooms and to keep them private from the new entry walkway we played with the way Queenslanders evolve over time and made the passageway reminiscent of a deck that had at some time been enclosed. This language was further iterated with a long bench down the site for sitting at the louvers and the external weatherboard cladding was brought inside.
The new spaces make the most of the site - allowing for northern light to penetrate deep into the space in winter. the bedroom window also pokes out past the existing house to allow the view to the back to be experienced from the bedhead
